Duncan MacCoinnich's task... Travel to the twenty-first century Renaissance Faire, deflower the Druid virgins, and go home. Only his job is not so easily accomplished with the virgin in question, Tara McAllister. Time is running out. The evil is closing in on them both.

Tara finds Duncan irresistible after what was supposed to be a mock Hand-fasting binds them. When Duncan whisks her to his home in Scotland she could accept that. But, can she forgive him for taking away her modern life when she finds herself in the sixteenth century? And is it love they feel? Or something else?

When I started reading romance fiction a few years ago, Highland romance came second only to romantic suspense. I gobbled up every Highland romance I could find and fell in love with the likes of Karen Marie Moning's Highland series because it had a perfect mixture of magic and intrigue and the past meeting the present. Sadly, I don't read many books in this genre anymore but I still enjoy them a great deal. Today I decided I wanted such a read. Scouring Amazon yielded LOTS of Highland romances but none of them caught my attention until I saw the description of Catherine Bybee's Binding Vows. The description hooked me right off the bat and being a fan of some of Bybee's other work completely sold me on it. I downloaded the ebook and the audio and set about to listen.

From the very beginning I just knew that I would enjoy it because Bybee's storytelling quickly drew me into it. The story begins set at a time in the present (in the female protagonist's time) but the machinations of a dark witch cause the couple to be thrust back into the 16th century's (to the male protagonist's time). The couple begin a magical (really) journey of discovery of Tara's Druid heritage. Duncan is quite the Druid warrior in his own right so he tutors his lady love on how to harness her gifts. All this is done AFTER she forgives him for trapping her in his time. At first, Tara reluctantly embraces her new life in the 16th century but gentle coaxing by Duncan's family breaks her out of her self imposed isolation. Then Duncan steps in and begins to woo the only woman who was able to capture his heart.

This story is not overly sey; however, EVERYTHING else balanced so well and the chemistry between the characters was so well written that you didn't even miss it. The immersion of the evil witch, Grainna, kept the intrigue high because you never knew at what point she would pop up to create devilment. Although Tara's novice Druid magic (bolstered by the help of the Druid ancients) was enough to banish Grainna, she was not destroyed and will most definitely pop up again to haunt the family.

I enjoyed how Bybee introduced Dunca's siblings into the story and provided teasers about their future. I am absolutely adding the rest of this series to my TBR and will get back to it soon. I loved it.

Binding Vows MacCoinnich Time Travels Book 1 eBook Catherine Bybee Reviews

This is the first book in a time travel romance trilogy. Here we meet Tara and her friend who are visiting a Renaissance Fair in modern day California. There they meet up with the villain, a dark druid woman who has been banished to that time. And she needs a virgin of druid descend to break the spell. Tara being both of those things of course is then in danger.

To the rescue come Duncan the hero of this novel and his brother Finlay, who come from medieval Scotland to modern day to prevent the dark druid from finding virgins. And yes, they usually do exactly as one might think. un-virgin the virgins. ) No virgins, useless to the dark druid.

This time though they take Tara to the past for protection and that is where the story unfolds.

I had a few issues with Tara the heroine, although I can't quite put my finger on why. I have no faults with Duncan though, or his brother. Really the whole family is quite interesting and I really got a sense all the way through that there is a lot more story to tell.

Although there is a nice proper romance ending, there is also the overreaching arc that flows through these books and because the way it ended and where it left another member of the family, I went immediately to the next in the series and started reading it. I just had to know what happened next.

I have owned this kindle book for a while now and I am glad I finally got around reading it.
Overall I really enjoyed it.

Entertaining time travel romance with a paranormal twist. The characters were all appealing in their own ways. There was a great deal of suspended belief on my part to get involved in this story. It uses quite a lot of special powers and magical happenings to move the plot along. So if you’re looking for something along the lines of Oitlander, this is not it. However, it was fun and enjoyable with some steamy passion and good chemistry between the characters. I am interested enough to read the next in the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed "Binding Vows" by Catherine Bybee. I am always looking for my Outlander fix and this story Did Not Disappoint me. Binding Vows is very will constructed story of time travel, romance and and evil Druid Witch. The story does glean scenes from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, but it has done a great job making its own mark. Maybe even a better job in developing the time travel story. The characters are rich and colorful, The H/H are written perfectly with not to much angst. Just a little. The secondarily character are written so well that I can't wait for there stories to be told. Catherine Bybee is an extraordinary author and she pulls you right into this story and doesn't let up until you finish. Which means I was all night because I couldn't put this book down. Its very fast paced story and it has No unnecessary fillers to add to the page. Which is the mark of a good author. The only complaint I have is with the abuse of the heroin. Tara suffers at the hands of the evil dark Druid Witch Grianna/Gwen. I hate physical abuse especially if the heroin is pregnant. I don't know how the baby survived the beating its mother took. The love story between Tara and Duncan is very believable and very well written. The love scenes are mild but sexy none the less!!

The MacCoinnick Time Travel series reminds me a lot of Outlander by D. Gabaldon and the Lock Moigh series by Barbara Longley. Each of these authors has put there own spend on there series and each has entertained me immensely! I highly Recommend Binding Vows 5 Stars!! I have already downloaded bk2 Silent Vows and I am off to read it!!
